It's Okay to Give Yourself Permission to Rest

It's Okay to Give Yourself Permission to Rest

I’m tired. I’m sure right now you are too. It’s been a long week and we are in the middle of what seems like an endless pandemic. I’m still working, still being a husband and father, still doing what ever I need to do to maintain the household, and mentally and emotionally managing my way through all of it. It’s not easy, and it has been tiring. That’s why today, I just have to say, rest is important.

Rest is important. That is how your body maintains itself. Without rest, you will risk mental burnout and physical exhaustion. That’s why sleep is important, and so is rest. People typically assume that sleep is the only form of rest, but it’s also taking time to relax, meditate, or some other activity to unwind.

This morning I slept in. It sounds simple, but it was intentional. I didn’t set my alarm and I gave myself permission to sleep in. I woke up at 7am (to a lot of people, especially parents, know that is sleeping in), and slowly eased myself up into the day.

I do recognize that being able to rest is a luxury. With everything going on in this pandemic, I know people are balancing multiple responsibilities and have have been working non-stop. I’ve experienced that craziness, but fortunately, right now, I can relax for the time being.

Today, I’m giving myself permission to take it easy. I’m not going to rush through things. I let myself have time to be with myself and practice a little self-care. Recharging myself physically, mentally, and emotionally has always been important, but especially now during this pandemic.
