This is Our Time to be Courageous, Resilient, and Compassionate

Right now, with the COVID-19 pandemic, I know that a lot of people are feeling uncertain about the future. A lot of people (including me) have never experienced anything like this before.

You may be feeling a whole wide range of emotions. I get it. It’s okay if you feel anxious or even fearful. You’ve probably heard this countless times, but this is a crazy time to be alive.

Right now, it’s okay to be in despair. It’s understandable to be depressed, or feel down on the world. Our world has changed drastically in such a short amount of time.

Since there is so much suffering happening right now, this is a very crucial time. This is the time when courage, resilience, and compassion are needed. This is the time when we get to give the world what it needs.

This is the time for us to be courageous. In the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, we get to help those who are afraid. Think of your friends, family, and neighbors who are feeling anxious, overwhelmed, and different levels of fear. If you can, reach out and help them. A hearing from a familiar face might give them comfort today.

You may even be feeling a bit scared yourself. This is when you need to be kind to yourself, and practice some self-care. This is when you also need to build the courage inside you to get you through this. I have to push myself to practice this every day. Some days I need to push myself a little; other days I have to push myself a lot. It’s not easy (and not always successful), but necessary.

Now is the time that we get to show off our resilience. We have survived what life has thrown at us up until this point, and we’re still doing it. This is when we get to practice our ability to endure through troubled times. We can get through the feelings of missing our old lives, the building isolation, and feeling helpless. I don’t know how long this is going to be, but I do know that it will be temporary. We can survive these times if we practice our determination to get through unforeseen challenges.

Right now is also our opportunity to be compassionate. People are suffering. People have died. People have lost friends and family. People are facing economic hardships and food scarcity. Frontline workers (especially healthcare workers) face more danger each day at work. People are feeling more and more lonely with each passing day. People are stressed out. Be compassionate. This is the time to sympathize with what others are going through, and do what you can to make it better.

No matter how crazy the challenges COVID-19 throws at us, we will overcome them. For our friends, loved ones, and ourselves, we need to face our challenges and together, we will make it through these troubling times.
