Poetry (a poem by Chris Kirkpatrick)

There were years we held
Little conversation,

Infrequent visits,
                              silence
On the telephone.

But I don’t care about that
Anymore.
                  Instead, I’ll just chatter
And trust that you’ll listen.

Hopefully, after
A time,
              you’ll learn to pick up
Just where I leave off.

Chris Kirkpatrick is the author of two books of poetry, Learning to See from the Blind and Mixed Metaphors and is currently working on his third.
